We are a coalition of tenants, tenant rights advocates, public interest lawyers, and community based organizations with the goal of eliminating rent debt, evictions, and other harmful consequences of rent debt accrued during the COVID-19 pandemic in the City and County of Los Angeles.

Thanks to strong and steady advocacy from community members like you, we have won significant protections in our Tenant Bill of Rights in both LA County and the City of LA.

While we've made progress, we still have a lot of work to make sure our neighbors can stay housed. Right now in the City of LA we are making a big push to win:

- Stronger Rent Control (LARSO)

- Updates to the Tenant Anti-Harassment Ordinance (TAHO) so that it actually holds landlords accountable.

- Rent Debt relief! Check out our instagram to learn about how rent debt is affecting our communities and what we can do about it.

If these things are important to you and you want to take action, you can send your councilmembers an email right now to urge them to do their job to protect LA tenants!

What’s Going on With Tenant Rights in L.A.?

KLAH Statement on LAHD Report

August 30, 2022

“LAHD’s report acknowledges the need to address gaps in the City’s permanent tenant protections, and includes some of the policies recommended in Keep LA Housed’s Tenant Bill of Rights, but it does not go far enough to protect all tenants”

KLAH Statement on 2022 Homeless Count

September 8, 2022

“Imagine a  Los Angeles where everyone has a roof over their head. That’s the end goal, and one clear next step is stronger, permanent tenant protections.  We should not go back to a world where renters across Los Angeles go unprotected from needless eviction and we become accustomed to the large increases in homelessness that we experienced pre-pandemic. ”

Over the past few years, we fought hard to extend the emergency tenant protections that helped keep thousands housed throughout the course of the pandemic so far. With emergency protections extended, we’ve fought to win strong PERMANENT PROTECTIONS to establish a just recovery moving forward.

We know the work is far from finished, but we are proud to have won several of the protections from our proposed Tenant Bill of Rights at both the City and County. Read about those here.

Together, we will continue to work to stabilize our communities and #KeepLAHoused.

Keep LA Housed press conference and rally launching the LA County Tenant Bill of Rights on International Mother’s Day.
